Map markers | Add the ability to add map markers on custom maps. You will search for a place by its name which will pull up a search box and allow you to select the place, which then puts a marker on the map. You'll be able to customise the marker.
Design templates | We would like to be able to offer a set of 'template' designs to act as 'jumping off points' for your own maps. So you might see a design on the site and think, "oh it would be lovely to take that design and change this and that, rather than starting it from scratch". This feature would allow you to do that.
Resolutions | This feature would allow you to choose a different 'resolution' for the shapes that appear on your map. In some cases, when you choose a particularly large country (like the USA for example), some of the line work can look a bit too 'fussy', and the design might look cleaner if it had less detail. This feature would come up with a way to allow you to reduce that detail if you wanted to.
Layer re-ordering | At the moment the 'layers' of the map go in the order that they are added, with countries on the bottom and then routes and then text. This feature will allow you to change the order of the layers so that some elements can sit on top of others.
Colour palettes | Currently choosing a colour can be a bit of a frustrating process if you want it to be the same as another colour on your design. This feature would save a set of recently-used colours that you'd be able to pick from when setting colours. We would also like to be able to offer some pre-designed palettes to give you a bit of inspiration when designing your maps.
Shape transparency | Currently when you add a feature (e.g. a country) to a custom map, it is initially transparent which is great if you want to just have the outline of the country. If you then set a fill colour it becomes opaque, and can't currently be changed back to transparent. This will allow you to do that.
Custom margins | This feature would allow you to pull the sides of the design in, to chop off parts of a map that you didn't want to appear in a particular place. You would be able to grab a handle in the corner of the design to pull that edge in, effectively covering up parts of the design underneath.
Accounts | Nobody likes having a bunch of online accounts for every single thing they do. But we figured that some people might like to save the designs they're working on. Currently the ID of the design you're actively working on gets stored on your computer, so when you open up the map designer it can tell you've got something in progress. But this doesn't allow you to have multiple designs ongoing at the same time. By creating an account, you'd have a place to store all your designs so you can come back to them when you want. |
